(Nasdaq: RADS) today announced its partnership with Hands On Atlanta and A.F. Herndon Elementary School, giving employees the opportunity to mentor third grade students each week in an effort to raise below-average Criterion-Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) scores as well as inspire enthusiasm in education. “It takes a special company, such as Radiant, to feel the importance of social responsibility and giving back to the community through time, not just financial donations,” said KaCey Venning, school programs manager at Hands On Atlanta. “My goal is for Radiant employees to get a more personal feel of urban schools and the eagerness that the children at Herndon Elementary have to learn. Large companies who choose to mentor really give students something to aspire to and help them realize that others are invested in their education.” Each Tuesday, Radiant employees visit Herndon Elementary school to tutor with homework as well as participate in educational games and activities as part of the After School Enrichment Program. At the end of third grade, students are required to pass state-wide CRCT exams to enter fourth grade – Herndon’s average scores on these tests fall well below state averages. Employees who participate in the program help students practice math problems, spelling words, science concepts and history. After designated homework time is completed, games and character-building activities take place, such as noun and verb charades and spelling bees. Not only have Radiant employees become mentors to students, but they have also become role models to enthusiastic and motivated children. “We are thrilled about this opportunity as one of our core beliefs as a company is to give back to the communities where we work and live,” said Keith Hicks, vice president of human resources at Radiant Systems. “Tutoring is a great way to help others lay a foundation for their success, and Herndon Elementary is a wonderful school that has the potential to change the lives of every student who walks through its doors.” Radiant Systems has also proudly participated in Hands On Atlanta Day for the past three years. On Saturday, October 3, more than 80 Radiant employees and family members helped clean up and beautify green spaces and the homes of senior citizens in the Howell Station Neighborhood.
